He had the same one when we were kids and had always wanted another copy after losing the first one. It was the exact same edition from my childhood.
My father was very pleased. The book was in fair condion.
The illustrations are beautiful and match the cartoon movie version that came out at the same time. Other copies of the book were selling for several hundred dollars.
I got this book for my father for Christmas. I found it here and ordered it through one of the marketplace sellers.
No dust jacket, loose binding and a little yellow but, because it was so hard to find I found it to be worth it.
It was exciting and adventuresome. I LOVED this book. I am not thrilled by many books, but I enjoyed this one.
This is the first novel that was more than 150 pages that I read when I was a kid and I remember reading it fondly. I recently reread it and it was better reading the second time around. He goes through caves, meets humans and has a close call with a dragon called Smaug. He encounters a creature called Gollum and finds a ring that makes the wearer invisible. Tolkien is a great story of a small individual from a small human like people called the hobbits. The novel, "The Hobbit", by J.R.R. He is taken on a great adventure with dwarfs. The book is a fun fantasy adventure story with a great deal of depth to the world it takes place in.
My father brought me and my siblings up on Tolkien. This illustrated version stays true to the original "Hobbit" and has been a great way for me to get my kids interested in reading Tolkien's works for themselves.
The old copy will go onthe shelf. It's still a great read, even 35 years later. I bought this to replace my wel worm and loved paperback from 1975. I read this within 1 week of getting it.
